Town of Bluffton releases statement on George Floyd death

Bluffton town leaders came together Saturday to release a statement in light of the death of George Floyd. The statement reads as follows:"The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota is on the hearts and minds of Americans everywhere, to include Bluffton. We recognize the reality that an incident of this magnitude can tear at the fabric of community relations which officers work to build every day—even in a community that is more than 1,000 miles from the Minneapolis. Public safety and community harmony are the result of a strong partnership between public servants—uniformed and otherwise—and the public we serve. We need each other in this collective mission and are grateful for the relationship we have with our community. This tragedy is a stark reminder of the opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the highest standards in serving our residents. Please be assured the leaders of the Town of Bluffton and the Bluffton Police Department remain committed to serving and protecting all residents with impartiality, integrity, and respect for human dignity."It goes on to say that this statement was on behalf of Mayor Lisa Sulka, Mayor Pro Tempore Fred Hamilton, Councilman Larry Toomer, Councilman Dan Wood, Councilwoman Bridgette Frazier, Town Manager Marc Orlando and Chief of Police Christopher Chapmond.
